Protective Role of Vitamin E on Antioxidant Defense System and Lipid Peroxide Concentration in the Blood of Rats Acutely Exposed to Cadmium
نویسندگان
چکیده
Male Wistar albino rats, 3 months old, were acutely treated with cadmium (0,4 mg Cd/kg b.m., i.p., 24 before the sacrificing) and with vitamin E + Cd (20 IU Vit E/kg b.m., i.m., 48 + 0,4 mg Cd/kg b.m., i.p., 24 before the sacrificing). The haematological values: red blood cells (RBC) count, haematocrite (Htc) value, haemoglobin (Hb) and lipid peroxide (LP) concentrations were determined. The status of antioxidant defense system (AOS): copper zinc containing superoxide dismutase (CuZn SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), glutathione reductase (GR), glutathione-S-transferase (GST) activities and reduced glutathione (GSH), ascorbic acid (AsA) and vitamin E (Vit E) concentrations were also determined in the blood of rats. RBC count, Htc value and Hb concentration were significantly decreased in the blood of rats acute treated by Cd. Vit E prevents anaemia caused by Cd. Acute administration of Cd significantly increased LP concentration, while Vit E reversed this changes. All examined components of AOS in the blood were significantly increased in Cd-treated rats. Pretreatment of rats with Vit E abolished the toxic effects of Cd on AOS.

Protective influence of vitamin E on antioxidant defense system in the blood of rats treated with cadmium.
The effects of acute exposure to cadmium (Cd) on the blood antioxidant defense system, lipid peroxide concentration and hematological parameters, as well as the possible protective role of vitamin E were studied. Male Wistar albino rats (3 months old) were treated with cadmium (0.4 mg Cd/kg b.m., i.p., 24 h before the experiment) or with vitamin E + Cd (20 IU Vit E/kg b.m., i.m., 48 h + 0.4 mg ...
متن کاملP-16: Effect of Vitamin E and Green Tea Extracts on Semen Quality and Oxidative Stress Parameters in Rat Exposed to Cadmium
Background: Cadmium is a potential pollutant of the environment. It manifests cyto-toxic effects in different organs in animals. In the testis, changes due to disruption of the blood-testis barrier and oxidative stress have been noted. Therefore, the present study was carried out to investigate the potential protective effects of vitamin E and green tea extract in combination against cadmium (C...

The objective of present study was to investigate the effects of aqueous garlic extracts, vitamin E and N-acetylcysteine on lead-induced lipid peroxidation, changes in antioxidant defense system and semen quality in the rat testes. Twenty-five male rats were divided into five groups. Animals within different treatment groups were maintained on their respective diets for 35 days as follows: grou...
متن کاملProtective Effects of Vitamin E Consumption against 3MT Electromagnetic Field Effects on Oxidative Parameters in Substantia Nigra in Rats
Introduction: Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) can influence the biological system by the formation of free radicals in cells. The EMFs are able to deteriorate defense system against free radicals that leads to oxidative stress (OS). Lipid peroxidation process (LPO) is an index of oxidative stress, and the Malandialdehyde (MDA) is the final product of LPO. Vitamin E is the most important antioxida...
